An estimated 17% to 37% of providers expose
vaccines to improper storage temperatures. Refrigerator temperatures are
more commonly kept too cold than too warm. Out-of-range temperature readings
require IMMEDIATE action. It is estimated that more than $100 million worth
of vaccine is exposed to freezing temperatures each year in the United
States.

Environmental Monitoring Can Help
You...
- Reduce cost of temperature monitoring and recording:
- Example 1: A hospital with 100
refrigerated units monitors and records temperatures twice daily
taking 5 minutes each to perform the
process. That’s 1000 minutes a day or
16 hours and 40 minutes a day this equates
to 6,083 hours a
year. At $29/hr
[Nurse full benefits cost], this equals
to $176,417
a year.
- Example 2: A clinic with one refrigerated unit
monitors and records temperatures twice daily taking 5 minutes each
to perform the process. That’s 10 minutes
a day or 3,650 minutes a year. This equates to 60 hours and 50
minutes a year at $29/hr [Nurse full benefits cost].
This equals to
$1,764.17 a year.
-
Eliminate product loss due
to compromised storage temperature.
-
Reduce medical
liability
from accidentally vaccinating patients
with ineffective vaccine or
providing medications that are ineffective due to a compromised
storage environment.
-
Helps achieve compliance
with USP 797 temperature guidelines,
JCAHO MM.2.20 & EC.6.10 standards, CDC standards, and
FDA 21 CFR (Part 11, Part 210, Part 211) guidelines.
-
Document process
improvement efforts as part of a QA / QC program.
-
Provide a comprehensive
roadmap to satisfy the audit portion of critical contained environment
areas.
